American Home Shield Testimonial
Featured in January 2001 Human Capital Magazine
American Home Shield (AHS), the nation's leading provider of home warranty plans for homeowners, was seeking a cost effective way to deliver quality training to its 1500+ employees. With a commitment to employee development, but constrained by fiscal responsibility the challenge was obvious. The recent buzz surrounding e-Learning suggested that the Internet may be a viable source for delivering training. However, understanding what is real about e-Learning versus hype, and sorting through the various vendors and their products and features, seemed an imposing task.
Step one was to accurately assess the AHS training needs and corporate IT infrastructure. With that complete, step two was to evaluate e-Learning vendors based on course offerings, ease of use, ease of implementation, quality content, and cost effectiveness. After careful scrutiny of a number of vendors, AHS chose Aegis Learning Group (Edgia), a little-known, but hard working and emerging leader in the e-Learning industry.
Aegis (Edgia) has distinguished itself from the pack with the high quality of its business skills related content and the media rich delivery of its courses. Aegis (Edgia) offers a complete, turnkey training solution that is easy to implement and use. With all of the “bells and whistles” of the “big guys” in the industry, but with fewer of the hassles, Aegis (Edgia) delivers training to suit a wide range of corporate needs. From soft skills, to safety, to basic IT skills, Aegis’ (Edgia’s) growing library of courses and cost-effective pricing options made it the clear choice AHS’s employee training needs.
“We evaluated several leading e-Learning companies and found that in many cases the content was weak, not intuitive, not more than reading online, or required additional dollars to buy more hardware and software to deliver the training” said Jinna Longsworth, Manager of Training and Development for American Home Shield. “We feel fortunate to have partnered with Aegis (Edgia) because they have high quality courses that are easy to use and do not require any investment in hardware or software.”
“After getting a thumbs up from the AHS Information Systems Team and taking advantage of the free evaluations of all Aegis’ (Edgia’s) courses, AHS moved forward with a pilot program to field test if courses delivered via the Internet offered the tangible learning benefit they hoped for.” said Jon Phillips, vice president of Product & Technology Strategy for Aegis Learning Group (Edgia).
American Home Shield has selected three courses with the goal of having each employee take at least one course by the end of the year. “E-Learning is absolutely a part of our overall blended strategy to complement our instructor led training. Now we just get to pick our spots as to which medium serves our employees best,” commented Longsworth.
